New generation of the German brand commercial model gained a more attractive design and a lot of technology

Volkswagen announced the arrival of the fifth generation Caddy on the national market, which is more practical and versatile, efficient and equipped with level two autonomous driving.

The fifth generation of this model of the German brand was completely redesigned and is based, for the first time, on the Modular Transversal Platform (MQB), which allows the incorporation of new technologies that increase safety and comfort and facilitate driving.

In Portugal the Caddy Cargo is offered with two types of bodies (Cargo and Cargo Maxi), with 2 or 3 seats , with a 2.0 TDI engine with three power levels: 75, 102 and 122 hp, coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox or 7-speed DSG transmission, and three equipment lines: Cargo, Cargo Business and Kingcab Business.

Caddy MPV (pass ageiros) is also proposed in two bodies (Normal and Maxi), with 5 or 7 seats, with the same 2.0 TDI diesel block, while the gasoline engine is the 1.5 with 114 hp, with 6-speed manual transmission or DSG transmission of 7 ratios, and three equipment lines: Caddy, Life and Style.

Inside, the fifth generation of this versatile model presents new solutions and a larger space offer. The long version – the Caddy Maxi -, for example, offers enough space to carry up to two europallets, which can optionally be loaded centrally in the transverse / rear direction, or in the transverse / rear longitudinal direction.

Caddy Cargo offers 3.1 m3 of cargo space (SAE V6 standard), of which 3 , 7 m3 in the long version. In turn, the maximum width is 1,230 mm and the width of the sliding doors is 840 mm (previously 701 mm). The maximum length of the cargo space is 1,797 mm or 2,150 mm (Cargo Maxi).

In turn, MPV versions are offered as standard with five seats and, optionally, as in the previous model , a third row of seats can be contemplated, quickly transforming the Caddy into a seven-seat vehicle.

A new feature is that the third row seats can be removed individually, thus offering maximum flexibility.

This family version offers luggage space up to 2,556 liters, and with five people on board, the volume continues with an impressive 1,213 liters, loaded up to the back of the seats.

The length of the cargo space of the Combi and MPV is 1,913 mm up to the first row of seats, and the maximum width is 1,185 mm.

Still inside, we highlight the Digital Cockpit that has a 25.4 cm screen, where the co ndutor can choose between three possible viewing modes.

Radio and infotainment systems have 6.5 inch (16.51 cm), 8 , 25 inches (20.96 cm) and 10 inches.

Other new features in Caddy are the digital tactile surfaces for light, vision, audio and menu functions multifunction. The rotating rotary control for the lights disappears, being replaced by the touch panel “Light & Sight”, located to the left of the steering wheel.

In this way, the driver can quickly and easily access the menu items of the central control system, using the direct access buttons. In addition, LED interior lights, ergonomic seats and a power supply for external 230V devices increase comfort on board the Caddy.

What’s new is also the way out on the roof for better air conditioning and fast, independent ventilation at the rear of the passenger compartment.

In terms of driving assistance systems, the new generation of the Caddy has five new features among the 19 driver assistance systems.

The new systems include ‘Travel Assist’, which facilitates driving with assistance over a wider range circulation speeds. In combination with ‘Travel Assist’, the Caddy’s new multifunction steering wheel is equipped with capacitive sensors, which ensure precise and smooth detection of a driver’s hand, thus avoiding false alarms.

In addition, the new Caddy also offers assistance for maneuvers with a trailer in reverse, the ‘Trailer Assist’, which allows simplifying the control and maneuvering of trailers and assists in transverse parking and in maneuvering- back towards ramps.

Volkswagen that the new Caddy arrives in the national market with a price that starts at 27,430 euros for the Cargo version, while the MPV variant starts at 25,852 euros, excluding VAT.
