Vinny Magalhaes gave fans an update after he suffered a gruesome leg injury against Craig Jones in the main event of Submission Underground 13.
On Sunday, April 26, MMA veteran and ADCC champion Vinny Magalhaes met Australian grappling star Craig Jones in the main event of Submission Underground 13. Just seconds into the match, Jones attacked Magalhaes with what appeared to be a fully-applied inside heel hook. With his foot turned 180 degrees in the wrong direction, Magalhaes refused to tap and escaped the position to the surprise of many fans. Moments later, Magalhaes was again caught in the same submission, and again he miraculously escaped.
The damage to Magalhaes’ leg had been done, though. After Jones and Magalhaes exchanged words mid-match, with Jones seemingly unsure if he should continue to attack Magalhaes’ leg, Magalhaes verbally submitted, acknowledging the injury that Jones’ leg locks had caused.
Shortly after the event, Magalhaes posted an update on the injury to Instagram. Despite the loss and what appeared to be a rather gruesome injury, Magalhaes was in good spirits, joking with Jones.

Magalhaes discusses that, while he does have some rather severe versatility in his ankles and legs, the first heel hook that Jones used appeared to go past Magalhaes’ regular limitation. Magalhaes specifies that he felt no discomfort, however rather instability. When Jones used the second heel hook, once again on the very same leg, Magalhaes once again (in some way) felt no discomfort, however with his leg still unsteady, he chose to send.
In the video, Magalhaes is seen basing on his own accord on what seems an inflamed ankle, calmly discussing that his foot had actually been twisted almost all the method around as a result of Jones’ leg locks. Still, Magalhaes states that he felt no pressure on his knee, which is the normal target of a heel hook.
