At the initiative of Vodafone Hungary, the Women in Technology Hungary Association is launched by co-founding Lenovo Hungary and BOOKR Kids, which aims to bring together women working in the field of technology. By establishing the association, the service provider wants to create a common knowledge-sharing and networking platform that, on the one hand, generates dialogue between the members of the organization and, on the other hand, provides inspiration, mentoring and professional help for the future female generation. The timing is not accidental either: with the action, Vodafone wants to draw attention to the importance of equal opportunities for women on International Women’s Day. Anita Lukács, Managing Director of Lenovo Hungary, and Dorka Horváth, Founder and Managing Director of BOOKR Kids, will join the Association as co-founders

The Women in Technology Hungary Association is in line with Vodafone’s global goal of 2025 become the best place to work for women. To achieve this, the service provider is working to ensure that by 2030, at least 40% of management positions in the company will be filled by women. The 2025 goal is also served by the #CodeLikeaGirl worshop for girls interested in computer science, the company’s global maternity leave policy, the ReConnect program to help reintegrate women returning to the labor market after a long absence, and Vodafone’s guidelines on domestic violence. All of Vodafone’s measures and programs serve to increase the role of women in technology and to create gender equality – just like the newly formed Women in Technology Hungary Association.

“We are honored to have a We can lead such an initiative and found the Women in Technology Hungary Association, and we believe that diversity is an essential element of business success, which is especially important in the field of technology, where there are still very few women experts. to bring together great women from different fields of industry, to start a dialogue, to set an example for the future generation of women, “said Amanda Nelson, CEO of Vodafone Hungary.

There are several international examples of supporting women in technology. One of the best-known and largest tech conferences of its kind in Europe, European Women in Technology brings together influential and inspiring women from all over the world working in the technology sector in a series of lectures. In addition, there are a number of organizations around the world that bring together women working in technology. At the same time, there is currently no program or organization in Hungary specifically to strengthen the role of women in technology – this is what the Women in Technology Hungary Association, set up at the initiative of Vodafone Hungary, intends to fill.

“Lenovo as a leader in IT has been a member of the Women in Lenovo and Women in Lenovo Leadership programs for more than 5 years, and the acronym WILL will mean “WILL.” This is a well-known global company that has been paying special attention to diversity and equal opportunities for women. The corporate will to give everyone at Lenovo an equal chance to become a valued and successful member of the company and to achieve a leading position at the local, regional or global level. In the IT industry, the proportion of female executives is still around 15%. At Lenovo, this figure is currently around 20% and our goal is to reach 25% over the next 5 years, with the biggest obstacle to faster change at the moment. that the profession is chosen by very few women. The establishment of the Women in Technology Hungary Association can help in this and is therefore very important to me, “said Anita Lukács, Managing Director of Lenovo Hungary.

“According to a recent survey by BCG, companies with more than twenty percent of management increases, revenue from innovation is ten percent higher. I think the formula is even simpler: half of digital products are bought by women. How could they understand us if they did not ask our opinion? I am proud to have joined the WiTH Association as a female startup founder from the start, with the aim of making the world of technology more understandable and accessible to all women who are receptive to the topic, “added Dorka Horváth, Founder and CEO of BOOKR Kids.

There is no better indication of the organisation’s raison d’être than the DESI indicator of 2020, which measures the development of the digital economy and society, according to which ICT professionals in Hungary have a similar proportion of the workforce to the rest of the EU ( 3.7% in Hungary, 3.9% in the EU), while for female ICT professionals this proportion is extremely low, at only 0.7% of all domestic female workers (compared to 1% in the EU). , With an average of 4%)
