Overclocked Radeon RX 6900 XT breaks world record in 3DMark

The Greek overclocking team OGS has broken the world record in 3DMark’s Fire Strike benchmark. With an overclocked AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT, the Greeks achieved a final score of 37,618 in the graphics test.

OGS used a PowerColor Red / Liquid Devil variant of AMD’s Radeon RX 6900 XT. This was increased (presumably with the aid of nitrogen cooling) to a clock speed of 3321 MHz – a record in itself. The same card was recently upgraded to 3225 MHz by the German overclocker der8auer , but that setup turned out to be less stable.

The Greeks managed to keep their card running longer at a higher frequency. In any case, long enough to complete the tough Fire Strike Extreme benchmark, with all the record results that entails. The GPU temperature rose on average to 65.5 ° Celsius during the test.

The results are by benchmark developer UL not officially verified as OGS seemingly with tesselation settings would have been messed up. However, on the popular benchmark collection website HWBOT.org those scores do compete, making OGS the current record holder for many.

The previous record was a score of 34,744, which was achieved with the same GPU. In any case, Fire Strike tends to prefer AMD cards, so the majority of overclockers in this class tend to lean towards the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT.

Until recently, the clock speeds of AMD’s Navi 21 GPU – known from the RX 6800 (XT) and RX 6900 XT – were limited to 3.0 GHz. Only recently has AMD released a Navi 21 XTXH GPU, which raises the ceiling to 4.0 GHz. Currently, only a handful of partner manufacturers of AMD offer video cards that have the overclock-resistant GPU.
