Nintendo has registered trademarks for several Zelda games in Australia. Twitter user Kelios noticed this first.

For example, it is striking that the trademark for The Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass was registered in February as ‘ Phantom Hourglass ‘. Nintendo also registered ‘ Majora’s Mask ‘ in February 2021. In some cases, it involves a second trademark with only the subtitle of the Zelda. games, in addition to the written name.

Other titles recorded between 2020 and 2021 are Skyward Sword, Ocarina of Time, The Wind Waker, Spirit Tracks and A Link to the Past. There is currently speculation as to whether the sudden trademark fixation hints at the franchise’s thirty-fifth anniversary on February 21. However, companies do not always make use of registered intellectual property.
