FIA and organizer of the mythical endurance race want to avoid the absence of an audience in the 24 Hours of Le Mans
The International Automobile Federation (FIA) revealed this Thursday the decision to postpone the 89th edition of the mythical 24 Hours of Le Mans to the weekend of 21 and 22 August
The race that counts for the World Endurance Championship (WEC), was initially scheduled to take place on 12 and 13 June, and the The decision to postpone the event to August comes at the request of the organizer, the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO), so that the event can count on the presence of the public.
“We couldn’t imagine a second edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans without an audience. We are working hard to ensure all the health care necessary for the public’s presence in a race that marks the debut of the new class of hypercars ”, stressed in a statement the ACO president, Pierre Fillon.
It should be remembered that in the 2020 edition, Filipe Albuquerque won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the LMP2 category and secured victory in the World Endurance category.
The new season of the WEC will start on April 4 at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, with the 8 Hours of Portimão, where Filipe Albuquerque will start defending the title.
