Waiting for PM’s directive to resume train services: minister

ISLAMABAD: Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Sunday stated that he can buy trains to resume operations by Tuesday however the department is “waiting for Prime Minister Imran Khan to say yes first”.

The Pakistan Railways on March 24 suspended the operation of all its guest trains throughout the nation in view of the fast- spreading out coronavirus, additional minimizing alternatives for commuters.

The minister stated that if the decision to resume train operations is not made by Tuesday, it will not be possible for the ministry to make people observe basic operating treatments (SOPs).

Rashid stated that crowds of people were waiting to visit their households on Eid-ul-Fitr. If they do not start operating by this week, the minister stated that trains will be overcrowded.

He revealed that ticket costs will likewise be lowered by 50-60 percent when trains resume operations, although the relocation will land the ministry in a loss.
