A challenge between four Germanic models with 2.0-liter engines to get to know the fastest

A confrontation between four ‘hatchback’ models with muscle is always desirable for those who like this vehicle segment.

The team « Carwow » decided to take four German models with 2.0-liter engines to the track to find out which one is the fastest.

This way he placed the Volkswagen Golf R, BMW M135i, Audi S3 and Mercedes-AMG A35 side by side, for a showdown in a drag race, in a launched race and in a braking test.

The Volkswagen Golf R, with Mat Watson at the wheel, is equipped with an engine that delivers 320 hp of power and a torque of 420 Nm, for a weight of 1,551 kg.

The BMW M135i, on the other hand, features a block with 306 hp and a torque of 450 Nm, for a weight of 1,600 kg, while the Mercedes-AMG A35 is also equipped with a two-liter block which features 306 hp for a torque of 400 Nm and a weight of 1,555 kg.

Finally, the new Audi S3 features an engine very identical to its opponents with 310 hp of power and a torque of 400 Nm, for a weight of 1,575 kg.

It remains to be seen whether the weight difference between the four models can contribute to determine the winner of this challenge.

As it turned out, the ‘drag race’, the Volkswagen Golf R was even the fastest when traveling the ¼ mile in 12.3 seconds, while the Audi S3 was second with 12.8 seconds, finishing in front of the BMW M135i, which was third with 12.9 seconds and the Mercedes-AMG A35 was fourth with 13.7 seconds

In the first race launched at 80 km / h in comfortable driving mode, the challenge was more balanced Golf R narrowly beating the Audi S3 that ended on the fre M135i and AMG A 35.

When the driving mode changed to sporting, the fight got tighter between the Golf R and the Audi S3, with Volkswagen getting the better of the Audi, while the BMW M135i was third ahead of the Mercedes-AMG A35.

Finally in the brake test, the story was different and Mercedes-AMG A35 won, relegating the Audi to the second position in front of the Golf R and the BMW M135i.
