German brand announces Opel Manta GSe ElektroMOD

Opel has revealed the revival of the historic Manta that marked the decade 1970s, crossing tradition with the brand’s current ‘simply electric’ electrification route, in the form of the Opel Manta GSe ElektroMOD electric.

The current trend of ‘restomods’, Opel responds with the ‘e-project’ Manta merging the original design with the technologies of the present. The fully electric Opel Manta GSe ElektroMOD and “as sporty as an original Opel GSe” will have a fully digital cockpit showing new ambitions.

The concept “MOD” is integrated in its denomination ‘MODerno’ in technology and sustainable lifestyle and in the abbreviated form of the British term ‘MODification’. The German term ‘Elektro’ is a reference to the Opel Elektro GT which, 50 years ago, broke several world records associated with electric vehicles.

Giving it now an emission-free electric motor, Opel wants to give the Manta immortality free of the need for replacement parts for the engine or transmission as with older combustion engine versions.

In this conversion to ElektroMOD, the German brand wants to also demonstrate the timelessness of the 1970 lines: “what for half a century it was sculptural and simple, it still fits perfectly into Opel’s current ‘design’ philosophy. ”

The historic Manta was the inspiration for the new face of the German brand: the Opel Vizor – which integrates the front, organically and in a single module, the grille, the lighting system and the Blitz logo. Now, the Mante icon is reborn in full form in electric form.
