Venezuelan plastic artist Eduardo Sanabria, better known as EDO, ventures into the universe of NFTs or non-fungible tokens. The cartoonist arrives with his first creation called “ Selfish ” in which he portrays five characters, all villains, who have been icons of pop culture.

The piece is auctioned on the OpenSea market and will remain in bid until June 14. At the time of publishing this article, the piece has not received offers, but it already registers dozens of visits in the marketplace.

«In this work EDO seeks to bring, with its style and point of view to these surreal-looking pop icons, with a twist, to the collectible digital world. It shows a darker side of these egomaniacal fictional villains who have become part of popular culture, “said Mint Studio, a startup specialized in NFT in Latin America.

In the play, EDO represents Alex DeLarge, from the movie A Clockwork Orange, who is played by actor Malcolm McDowell; to Heath Ledger as the Joker in the movie Batman: the Dark Knight and to Anton Chigurh, from the film It is not a country for old men , represented by Javier Bardem.

Sanabria completes her quintet with the character of Walter Hartwell White, from the series Breaking Bad , played by Bryan Cranston and with the legendary Hannibal Lecter from The Silence of the Innocents , immortalized by actor Anthony Hopkins.

With « Selfish » the author points out that people reflect on the role of characters and their influence on modern culture, the feelings they generate around them and the fine line that separates them from being loved or hated in a changing society.

Growing NFT Market

Just like EDO, thousands of artists on a global scale are looking at more than ce rca the world of NFTs. It is a new space in which creators can tokenize unique and unrepeatable pieces , market them and exhibit them in a completely digitized environment.

In a recent report by CriptoNoticias it was reported that the total market capitalization of non-fungible tokens already exceeded 23,000 million dollars. These are projects that bet on NFTs in their most varied expressions. Crypto collectibles, as they are also known, range from works of art, images, video game items or sports videos.
