A lawyer said that an American man and his son accused of helping ex-Nissan Motor Company chief Carlos Ghosn escape from Japan were handed over to Japanese authorities following a long court battle to avoid extradition from the United States.

The court set the stage. Last month, the US Supreme Council had the way to extradite Michael Taylor and his insulted son Peter by helping Ghosn flee Japan, while he was awaiting trial on financial charges.

In a letter to Blinken dated February 3, seen by Reuters, the attorneys for Taylor and his son said: “We do not believe there is any good reason for the extradition of these two American citizens.”

*) However, the Supreme Court refused an emergency request from the two lawyers to suspend an order issued by a lower court that paved the way for their extradition.
