Twitter reacts to doubtful scorecards in Brendan Allen vs. Kyle Daukaus.
Brendan Allen and Kyle Daukaus placed on an incredible, wild scrap as part of the main card for UFC Vegas 4, with Allen staying unbeaten in the Octagon and Daukaus being handed his first MMA loss. But the praises for the bout was quickly spoiled by the mockery and confusion of one of the judges’ scoring.
Allen, the former middleweight champion of the LFA, got into the UFC with a first-round submission win over Aaron Jeffery on season three of Dana White’s Contender Series (DWCS). He entered this bout off back-to-back finishes of Kevin Holland and Tom Breese at UFC Boston in October and UFC Norfolk in February, respectively.
Daukaus, the former champion of Cage Fury Fighting Championships, had his own win on DWCS, defeating Michael Lombardo by unanimous decision, but not earning a contract. He, instead, competed in two more successful defenses of the CFFC belt to enter this bout as a 9-0 fighter.
The two competed in a wild battle, with Allen dropping Daukaus with a knee about a minute into the bout before keeping him grounded and busting him open with ground-and-pound. Daukaus fought back but Allen maintained control of the fight in the second. But in the third, Daukaus busted up one of Allen’s eyes and continuously seeked out — and nearly got — a choke.
Most expected Allen to win two rounds on the judges’ scorecards, but one elected to give him a clean 30-27 sweep. And just as much as people in the MMA community praised the bout, the judge was given heat.
