The National Sports Council will consider the distribution of the sports budget for 2021

On Wednesday, January 27, a meeting of the Latvian National Sports Council will take place , which will decide on the distribution of the state budget program “Sports” for 2021, informed the agency LETA at the Ministry of Education and Science (MES).

It is also planned to make a decision at the forthcoming meeting on support for the organization of the U-19 World Basketball Championship for young people in Latvia. The issue of the implementation of the Paralympic Sports Center project will also be considered.

The Ministry of Education and Science points out that the total amount of the state sports budget for 2021 and EUR 33,827,923. EUR 1,784,015 is provided for the operation of the state national sports bases and infrastructure development projects, including EUR 956,058 – for the completion of the construction of the Olympic Center “Rēzekne”

It is planned to allocate 2,618,649 euros to sports federations and sports events, and more than 6,654,610 euros to support high-class achievements in sports.

The Ministry noted that the largest part of the sports budget for 2021 – 17,452,124 euros – was earmarked to pay for the work of teachers of professional sports education programs and to cover the mandatory state social insurance contributions.

The meeting of the Latvian National Sports Council will start at 13 and will take place remotely. The meeting was chaired by Jānis Reirs (JV), Minister of Finance
