The director of Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town comments on future plans, gay marriage and more

Gematsu recently had the opportunity to chat with the director of Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town, Hikaru Nakano . At the meeting, the creative has shared interesting statements on various topics related to the game and the franchise in general.

First of all, when he have asked about the future plans and if he plans to change the formula of the game, Nakano has assured that he wants to keep the series «true to itself ». However, he adds that “if we are talking about developments outside the central identity, there are certainly many possibilities.”

You have also been asked if other games such as Stardew Valley affected the development of Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town, and the creative has pointed out another example that did influence him in the development: the Rune Factory series as “a way to showcase the player’s skills and the method through which the player unlocks new crafting recipes.”

Another prominent issue that you have discussed in the interview is same-sex marriage . When asked if this possibility will become something fixed in the series, the director said the following:

Giving players the freedom to marry whomever they want is important for a game like Story of Seasons. I think it should be included in these games, so the development team and I intend to continue implementing same-sex marriage in future titles. There is a precedent in Japan for calling it ‘Best Friend Ceremony’, but it may change in the future.

What do you think? If you are interested, you can find some more topics (in English) in the full interview.
