Former UFC middleweight champ, Robert Whittaker, is ecstatic for his return to the Octagon.

Robert Whittaker took an extended break from competition upon losing his belt to Israel Adesanya in October of2019 Now, the former UFC middleweight champ will seek to return on track towards gaining back the title, as he deals with former welterweight champ, Darren Till, in the main event Saturday.

” It feels excellent. It feels actually excellent. I was starving,” Whittaker informed the media throughout his virtual scrum. “I’ve been hungry. That break I had was exactly what I needed. It lit a fire in me. It brought me enjoyment and happiness back in what I do; because what a lot of people don’t realize is that the fight itself is 15 to 25 minutes. You know, it’s every other day — training, every hour you spend in the gym. So that’s the rest of life and that’s what I had to come to grips with. I had to start enjoying it again, and having that break and just being away from the game, you know, away from the training, away from the gyms just lit that fire and reinvigorated me.”

Prior to the Adesanya defeat, Whittaker had won 9 battles in a row, consisting of back-to-back wins versus Yoel Romero that both went to the judges to choose Whittaker’s fate.

Robert Whittaker is less worried about winning world titles, and wishes to accept his love of the sport.

While Whittaker enjoyed his championship status, his main focus is enjoying himself as his profession reboots.

” It must be a cracker,” Whittaker stated of Till. “We’re gonna go out there and get it on. It should be fun.”

Whittaker is not worried about battling in an empty arena on Yas Island.

” That does not trouble me excessive,” Whittaker stated. “The thing is, I’m just happy to be fighting overseas. Look, I’ve fought a lot in Australia, and I love fighting there. All my fans and friends are there, but I’ve done it a lot. There’s a lot of things that surrounded me. A lot of media obligations, a lot of hype-building. Nothing gets bigger than that last one, and the way it came crashing down, you know what I mean? So, just to be able to experience it, as well as a huge draw for me, with this career if you would, is that I got to travel the world. Before work, I got to visit exciting places, I got to fight in front of different crowds. I got to experience a side of life that most people can’t. Granted, it’s a little restricted right now, but it’s good. It’s really good. This is why I signed up. I wanted to come to places like Abu Dhabi.”

Whittaker gets in the bout at 20 -5, having actually taken on the promo considering that 2012.
