Although Mercedes-Benz entered the electric vehicle market relatively early before the listing of its B-Class and SLS AMG Electric Drive model and its investment in Tesla a decade ago,

The first swallow could have been the EQC, which originally arrived in 2020, but the small crossover has now been removed for an indefinite period of time. from the table. Mercedes unveiled its first dedicated EV, the EQS 2022, in April and confirmed that it will also be available this fall

The first units sold began to roll off the belt in Sindelfingen, Germany. Known as Factory 56, the flexible plant was commissioned last year with production of the 2021 S-Class. Here, Mercedes can produce petrol, hybrid and electric vehicles on the same production line. The plant is also highly automated and generates around 30% of its energy from solar energy.

The start of EQS production is a major turning point for Mercedes. While all of the carmaker’s previous EV models were originally based on a platform developed for internal combustion engines, the EQS received a separate EV platform with the factory name EVA.

The dedicated EV platform allows for higher battery capacity. The EQS contains a 108 kilowatt hour lithium-ion battery. This is expected to give the large sedan a range of more than 600 kilometers on a single charge. The battery will be manufactured at Mercedes’s plant in Hedelfingen, Stuttgart

Two EQS versions will be available at launch. There will be a base EQS 450+ with 328 horsepower and rear-wheel drive, as well as a more powerful EQS 580 4Matic 516 with horsepower and all-wheel drive. Maybach and AMG variants are also being planned, prototypes of AMG have also been seen tested. The car is expected to have more than 600 hp.
