India is one of the countries most affected by COVID-19 and there is little help in a country where there are still many social barriers to break down
21st century India, Veeralakshmi Muthukumar recently became the first woman to drive ambulances. Yes. The first one, it was at the end of last summer, get to know the story! Portuguese reality, where professionals of both sexes have been driving ambulances for several years, and, a century compared to American Red Cross volunteers who, during the First World War, were already driving ambulances in the United States of America.
Realities apart , the truth is that Veeralakshmi has achieved a remarkable feat and after three years of driving a taxi in the province of Chennai, he finally obtained the government authorization to join her husband who is also an ambulance driver.

But it was not easy to get here. Only 30 years old and the mother of two children, Veeralakshmi, contacted ANEW, a women’s humanitarian association in Anna Nagar, four years ago to be able to work.
That’s how he started training his driving skills and gaining confidence, becoming an ambulance driver in a fleet of 108 new units that were deployed in late summer 2020.
Congratulations from the Tamil Nadu Pradesh Mahila Congress, a women’s wing of the Indian National Congress:
