Here’s Video Of Trump Trying To Explain Why He Cut The Pandemic Response Team

President Donald Trump took apart the National Security Council’s pandemic response system in 2018– a subject he declares to understand absolutely nothing about now that the U.S. is being buffeted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Trump clearly rejected any duty for mishandling the COVID-19 crisis at a press conference on Friday, where he informed PBS press reporter Yamiche Alcindor he didn’t “know anything about” his former national security consultant’s removal of the White House global health security team.

Rather, he called Alcindor’s concern “nasty” and proceeded.

“I just think it’s a nasty question,” Trump stated. “When you say ‘me,’ I didn’t do it … You say we did that, I don’t know anything about it.”

He did do it. And there’s video of him discussing his reason last month. (Enjoy it above.)

“I’m a business person,” the president stated in a Feb. 26 White House press rundown. “I don’t like having thousands of people around when you don’t need them.”

“Some of the people we’ve cut they haven’t been used for many, many years, and if we ever need them we can get them very quickly and rather than spending the money.”

The National Security Council’s Directorate for Global Health Security and Biodefense was produced under President Barack Obama after the 2014 Ebola break out, The New york city Times explained. It consisted of health and biodefense specialists to collaborate the U.S. response to global health dangers.

Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) called out Trump for declaring lack of knowledge of his actions to dissolve the pandemicteam Recently, Brown distributed a letter he sent out the White House in 2018 questioning the knowledge of removing the global health security office:

Not true, @realDonaldTrump. I composed to you more than 600 days ago requiring responses after you fired the whole White House pandemicteam https://t.co/ICbHOkyeyY pic.twitter.com/71 OF9gKA3N

“The administration’s proposed budget cuts threaten our ability to respond to a public health emergency,” Brown alerted at the time. “In our globalized world, where illness are never ever more than an airplane ride away, we should do all we can to get ready for the next, inescapable break out and keep Americans safe from illness.

“I urge you to act swiftly in reaffirming your commitment to global health security by taking immediate action to designate senior-level NSC personnel to focus on global health security, supporting adequate and appropriate funding for global health security initiatives, and leading the way in preparing for the next pandemic threat.”
