“Their warmth, wit and contrasting personalities endeared them to the nation during the course of the first 10 series.”

June’s death was not associated with COVID-19, the broadcaster stated.

The declaration explained her as “remarkably independent, principled woman with a vivacious sense of humour and a huge passion for life”, including that she would be “dearly missed”.

” Our ideas are with June’s family – Helen and Ian, Julie and Marc, and her precious grandchildren Frances, Sam and Faye.

” The family would like to request personal privacy at this unfortunate time, however would like to thank the hospice personnel that supported them and took care of June so splendidly and with such empathy in her final weeks.

“Despite her departure from the show in 2017, she remained a passionate supporter of the programme, watching it every week, and she was in regular contact with the production team.”

Gogglebox star Sandi Bogle composed on Twitter: “So sad the beautiful June Bernicoff has sadly passed away” and starlet Frances Barber stated the news of June’s death had actually made her “weep”.

She added: “I loved them both so quite. Leon and June.

” What a terrific couple they were.”

June composed her first book about her and Leon’s love and life together following his death.

They met in 1955 and married 5 years later on.
