Latvian basketball player Rolands Freimanis has earned a place in the VTB United League team for his performance last week, this is the second time this season that the tournament organizers have announced such an honor. In the United League team of the week, the athletes were selected based on their performance over the past weekend.
The Polish team Zelona Gura “Stelmet” represented by Freimanis and Jānis Bērziņš Enea “won Saratov’s” Avtodor “on Saturday with 77:64. Freimanis stood out in this game with 21 points, seven rebounds, three intercepted balls and the second best efficiency ratio in the team – 17. The Latvian basketball player was previously among the five best basketball players in the third week of December.
In addition to Freimanis, the league’s team would also include Kazan “Unics” players Aizeja Kanan and John Brown, Robert Kaltel / Cramo basketball player Morris Kemps Bethlehem from Krasnoyarsk “Enisey”. The Polish team represented by Latvia ranks sixth in the tournament table with eight wins in 15 games.
As in the previous season, this regular tournament also starts 13 teams – nine from Russia, as well as one unit each from Estonia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Poland. For the second season in a row, the VEF Rīga team is not participating in the tournament. The 2019/2020 league season ended prematurely due to a pandemic caused by the coronavirus, without finding out the champion. At the time of the termination of the championship, the first place was taken by the Khimki of the Moscow region, but the second place was taken by the Moscow CSKA.
