Jon Jones was riding a wave of success but his newest altercation with the law brings an end to any type of comeback season.

As the mixed martial arts community watches closely to figure out the future of the sport, headlines have been short of compelling angles. That was until Thursday when news broke that UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, was arrested once again in Albuquerque, NM. It seemed like Jones was finally on track to turn things around and was building an impressive resume during his comeback tour. Thursday’s arrest has put a halt to any momentum he was building across the sport.

When talking about Jones’s legacy it’s hard to ignore any of his various troubles. At 32-years-old, a lot of people would have him atop their list of greatest fighters of all time. But there’s just as many that wouldn’t even consider him a part of the conversation for his multiple transgressions. Everything from his first DUI in 2012, to his multiple drug test failures, the hit and run altercation in 2015 has given the public more than enough ammo against him. And if they didn’t have enough bullets to last the rest of their career before this matter, they certainly have reloaded after today.

In August 2018 Jones took to Twitter to announce a “comeback season.”

“Every part of the journey matters,” He wrote “Triumphs and setbacks all combine to make the climb what it is supposed to be. My feet are dug in and I have clear motivation as to what I’m going after and why. I promise you’ve never seen anything like what’s coming #comebackseason.”

What’s regrettable is that the battle neighborhood has actually seen this story in the past.

Because that tweet, Jones has actually gone a long method in re-establishing himself as the leading name in the sport. He controlled Alexander Gustafsson and Anthony Smith.
