Deiveson Figueiredo completed Joseph Benavidez to win the flyweight title.

Deiveson Figueiredo beat Joseph Benavidez by means of technical submission (rear-naked choke), round 1– 4: 48, at UFC Battle Island 2 on Saturday, July 18, 2020, live from Battle Island on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, AUE.

In a rematch of their February 2020 battle that saw Figueiredo win by second-round knockout, Figueiredo knocked Benavidez down 3 times in under 5 minutes prior to choking the veteran competitor unconscious. Figueiredo is now the undeniable UFC flyweight champ.

“I worked really hard for this, I knew my time was going to come,” the newly-crowned champ stated after the battle, through a translator. “I’m going to continue to defend this belt and I’m going to be an active champion.”

Joseph Benavidez vs. Deiveson Figueiredo round 1

After trading kicks on the outside for almost a minute, Benavidez consumed a best hook from Figueiredo that dropped him to the mat. Minutes later on, Figueiredo worked to the back of Benavidez, assaulting rear-naked chokes, almost protecting numerous prior to Benavidez worked back to his feet. Back in open space, Benavidez appeared recuperated. Figueiredo forced forward and landed a big best uppercut that quickly put Benavidez on the mat.
