Monster Jam Steel Titans 2 for Nintendo Switch
THQ brings until Nintendo Switch the second installment of the iconic monster truck title: Monster Jam Steel Titans 2 . With this second installment they have proposed to improve certain shortcomings that we found in their first installment. Have they succeeded? Let’s check it out.
The monstrous world of trucks
Monster Jam Steel Titans 2 takes us fully into the world of these motor beasts. After a small tutorial that shows us the handling and the basic steps , we enter a semi-open world where we will discover new actions and rewards, improve our trucks and access the tests that we can perform . There are a total of five worlds where we can discover this type of secrets.
From this scenario we can access with a single button to the classic career mode, with 21 episodes where we will always pass the same type of tests , which vary in their scenarios or in the way they are executed.
Basically, these tests are as follows:
- Head to head: one against one where we must beat the same circuit in less time than our opponent.
- Freestyle: here we must demonstrate our expertise doing stunts and collecting points.
Route point : we must go through certain check points and complete the proposed route before our rivals.
In addition to these 21 episodes, We also have competitions in official stadiums such as Salt Lake or Denver , where there is a succession of tests based on the aforementioned, but with a more spectacular setting and a audience that jellies our brightest actions.
Maybe a little more variety is missing in the tests and in their scenarios. After all, sometimes it feels like we repeat the tests excessively and the scenarios often resemble each other, which can be monotonous for some players.
Although to do all this, the control must be up to par. What can we say about him? In the next point we see it.
One dual traction control
In its first installment, Monster Jam Steel Titans already showed a hard control but with a fairly well executed learning curve . And in this second installment he maintains what he did well at the time and polishes it to leave a better feeling.
We have the control of both axles of our truck with the sticks of the left Joy-Con and the Joy- Rightly, something that a priori can be complicated but that as soon as we adapt leaves a good feeling.
In the case of split screen multiplayer (which we will talk about later) the truck can be controlled with a single Joy-Con but, logically, the control of the two axes is not carried out and the experience is somewhat more limited, but it is appreciated to be able to play with a single Joy-Con with a friend.
The vibration of the Joy-Con accompanies although, sometimes, it can be excessive, or at least I have felt it.
What about graphics and sound?
The unstable framerate was also another aspect to improve that stood out from the first installment. And in Monster Jam Steel Titans 2 I have not noticed that the title scratches excessively, although at some points I fluctuated to, but nothing that ruin the experience.
The models of the trucks, where we find official vehicles like Avenger , Megalodon, Zombie or Higher Education, they are quite impressive and detailed . These vehicles lose part of their parts as we suffer impacts and crashes. We will gain these vehicles little by little as we complete episodes of career mode and special missions, reaching a total of 38 vehicles.
However, the scenarios still seem somewhat poor, similar to each other and with textures in trees and decorations quite improvable . It is a remarkable contrast, where our vehicle is striking and its surroundings very simple.
In the sound section , Monster Jam Steel Titans 2 includes some rock melodies that accompany quite well . We have a kind of assistant in the tutorials who tells us in Spanish what to do. The title is translated although a revision of it would not have been bad, since sometimes some other text in English jumps between means and some sentences do not seem quite well constructed.
How far does that truck go?
Monster Jam Steel Titans 2 can take us around 10 hours on average to complete his career mode and his stadium phases in Big Show. Although completing all the missions and getting all the truck models may take a few more hours.
To this we must add a split screen multiplayer and a local mode . In addition, what was expected in its first part has been included: online mode , where we can compete against players from all over the world , which adds hours of fun to the title. In this mode, compatible with Nintendo Switch voice chat , we can enjoy Exploration (driving freely with up to 6 players); Versus, where we will compete in Head your Head, Timed Destruction, Two Wheel Stunts and Freestyle modes; and Carrera, where we will face other players in Circuits and Route Points. Of course, I have not found rivals in these days in which I have analyzed it, but surely the community will grow as the game sells.
It would have been nice to be able to include some kind of creation or customization of our trucks, to be able to show off our own creation. Perhaps for a third part it is taken into account …
Conclution
Monster Jam Steel Titans 2 takes what worked well for him from the first part and includes a series of improvements to make a more than correct game and that will be liked by those who are fans of this type of truck . An online mode has been added and the performance has been polished a bit more, although it still needs to improve in scenarios and in its graphic aspect . If you like motor games and you want to try an idea that goes beyond the classic races, this title may be a good option. You can find it both in physical and digital format for a price of € 39.99. If you go for the digital option, you will need a total of 9.1 GB in your memory .
