A personal recommendation is the best entry for development projects

Corporate marketers choose a partner based on the familiar recommendation of a development project, but in addition to experience and personal impression, price is still the deciding factor. This is an interesting finding when we also consider that there is often a significant difference between the specification defined in the first round and the work completed. In addition to accomplishing this task, consulting and common thinking now play a much bigger role, according to Integral Vision’s online survey of corporate marketers.

In 2020, everyone fled to the online space and did so with more or less success. The appreciation of web solutions, and so the quality of online presence in general, has meant an opportunity for most businesses to survive. There was no shortage of development projects, but the sharing of experience and work processes shows a mixed picture.

In general, in the case of online developments, the programming is mostly done by companies with the involvement of an external partner, only 10% of the respondents said that to solve the whole process in-house. What was different was the question of the definition of the task: the most common procedure is that only the problem / task is formulated on the customer side and the complete solution proposal (specification, creative, programming) is expected from the development team. This is very positive because common thinking has a better chance of creating a truly tailored solution that serves the customer’s needs in the longer term, for example by creating an easily customizable interface that can respond flexibly to company changes. However, almost a third of the respondents do not give such a free hand, more than 23% are already looking for a development partner with a finished specification after the completed creative.

An interesting question is the process following the selection of partners. Perhaps most importantly, personal recommendation and previous experience. 77% of the respondents start to find out based on a familiar recommendation, 59% answer based on previous collaborations. Of particular interest is the fact that professional recognition or press presence counts only 13% during the first round of screening.

In the final decision, not surprisingly in the light of last year’s economic figures, the price is clearly creativity, professional experience and personal impression.

Regarding past experience, perhaps most importantly, 90% of respondents stated that the programming process expectations and needs have certainly changed over the years. Given the complexity of development processes, this figure is not at all surprising. “An interesting contrast is that although in most cases needs change during development, price is still the primary consideration in decision making. That is, it is worth counting on the first round of bidding, as it is in everyone ‘s interest to keep the accepted budget. Incidentally, customer needs have changed significantly over the last few years, while previously there was an expectation to perform a specific task, today there is a much greater need for advice and common thinking.Agility is now a basic expectation. It is important to develop solutions that which are viable in the long run and profitable even after changing needs, “said Zsolt Kulcsár, Managing Director of Integral Vision.
