A memorial to victims of COVID-19 is seen at the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool on Tuesday. Four hundred lights will illuminate to represent 400,000 people who have died.

"Sharing grief brings people together," says historian Micki McElya. The ceremony in Washington, D.C., Tuesday is the most prominent memorial so far to the victims of COVID-19.
